Kahlua: A Quick Guide

Kahlua is the most popular coffee liqueur. This article will tell you everything you need to know about Mexican liquor and how to use it.

It is rich and bittersweet and tastes like sweetened coffee. Kahlua is everyone’s favorite coffee liquor. This Mexican liquor dates back to the 1930s and is key to many famous drinks such as the White Russian or Mudslide. What is it made from, and how can you use it best? These are the answers. This is what you need to know about this coffee liqueur.

What is Kahlua?

Kahlua is an espresso liqueur made with coffee, sugar, vanilla bean and rum in Veracruz, Mexico. Pedro Domecq created it in 1936. Contrary to popular belief, there is no dairy in Kahlua. Kahlua has a dark brown color and is not creamy, although many popular drinks use it.

After the invention of the Black Russian in 1948, and the subsequent spin-off of the Russian in 1995, Kahlua was popular. These classics helped Kahlua to the forefront of the market in the 1960s, 1970’s. It was the top-selling coffee liqueur in the world by 1980.

Note: While Kahlua has no dairy, it isn’t 100% vegan. One of its suppliers uses a sugar refining procedure that isn’t vegan-friendly.

What is the taste of Kahlua?

Kahlua is full-bodied and has a sweet, rich flavor. The taste is strong and reminds you of coffee with caramel notes at the end.

The alcohol content of Kahlua Kahlua has 20% ABV (alcohol per volume)? It is therefore relatively low in alcohol. It is comparable to whiskey, vodka, vodka, and gin which are 40% ABV.

Do you have any alternatives? Any coffee liqueur can be substituted: The most popular is Tia Maria’s and Sheridan’s.

It’s why we love it.
