SAUCE GREEN CHILE ENCHILADA
Canned green Enchilada Sauce is kind of sad. It is usually bland and watery. It’s a bit laborious to make authentic green enchilada paste. This involves roasting fresh tomatillos and onions as well as garlic and peppers. I needed something in the middle. I needed a rich, flavorful green enchilada recipe that was easy to make. This Green Chile Enchilada Sauce is super simple and easy to make. It’s based on my Easy Homemade Red Enchilada Sauce but uses a green chile base with different spices. This one will be as good if you like my red enchilada recipe!
WHAT’S IN GREEN ENCHILADA SAUCE?
A mixture of onions, garlic, tomatillos and spices makes green enchilada. This Green Enchilada Sauce is a great way to get an authentic recipe. As I said in the introduction, I wanted convenience but not sacrificing flavour. I substituted fresh roasted peppers and onions for canned green chiles, dried spices, and even some garlic. For thickening power, I add some oil and flour. I will make my enchilada recipe the traditional way when I have the time. But this is my favourite version!
Is THIS SAUCE SPICY?
It can exist. The heat level of canned green chiles may vary. Kroger’s canned diced green chillies were mild. However, they might have some heat depending on which brand they are. You can add a few drops of cayenne pepper to spice up your green enchilada soup sauce.
HOW DO YOU USE THE GREEN CHILE ENCHILADA SAUCE?
Enchiladas are great for more than just enchiladas. It can be used for:
- Mixing eggs with tortilla chips or cheese to make chilaquiles and migas
- Tacos dipped in honey
- Mix with sour cream to make a creamy-tangy dip for chips
- Burritos stuffed with cheese
- Mix it into mayo and use it as a green-chile coleslaw dressing
CAN I SAVE THE FLOUR?
You can make this sauce gluten-free by skipping the flour. Although the flour-oil combination helps thicken the sauce slightly, it will still make it deliciously flavorful and creamy.
